Two weeks ago I went on a little trip with my two youngest children. :) YAY!! It was a much needed rest and very relaxing trip. We just hung around and played and reconnected with family and friends. :)
My trip started with spending two days with my long lost best junior high friend Katie. She and I were best friends from about 6th grade through 8th grade. Then I moved away from CT. The following year she moved away as well. We kept in pretty good touch all through high school and even most of the way through college. When I went on my mission, she finished college and moved, as well as my dad moved homes a few times. So we lost track of each other. Over the years I have searched for her, but without any luck. Then, about my second week on Facebook, she found me. :) It has been so fun to be in touch with her again. Anyway, I got to go and spend two days with her and her family! It was great. We just hung out and let our children play. It was very nice. Our girls played nicely and had lots of fun.
I do think their dog, a little pug dog, might have scarred little D for life though. LOL!! Her dog was obsessed with D. She followed him around and sniffed his toes. D screamed and cried whenever she was around. Molly, the dog, especially loved to hang around under the high chair waiting for whatever pieces of food might fall her way. This left D way too preoccupied worrying about the dog by his feet. I didn't realize how much it worried D until we were at my sister house. When we put him in the high chair there he kept peeking around by his feet, and anytime anyone bumped his feet he would jump and fuss until we reassured him that the dog was all gone. :) hahahaa. Poor poor D. LOL!! I think all is well for now. :)
Anyway, we had fun, the kids had fun, and it was fun to spend some time with Katie and get to know her family. I have thought of her often over the years and am glad that we have reconnected. I am looking forward to seeing her again. :) Thanks, Katie.
Dawn and her youngest came to pick us up. We headed to her house, which should have taken almost two hours. However, due to forgetting a cell phone, a turn around, and MANY stops to go to the bathroom for our little girls I think it was about a 3 hour trip. Sorry Dawn. :)
The first night was full of dance classes. Then home and pizza for dinner. MMM! We did homework and played a bit. Her kids thought D was the best new toy one could have. He was dotted on from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. :) The next day was school for the kids and preschool for Dawn and her daughter C and then we went along, too. My sweet S got sick before we went, she threw up. Poor thing. I was pretty sure she was fine. She had been having a bit of a rough few nights missing her Daddy and family, and then getting woke up early was hard on her. I thought it was mostly nerves. So we still went along. Well, she continued to throw up throughout the day, but I still thought it was mostly nerves. Anytime we were switching activities or about to go somewhere she would get sick. At the end of the day, I decided that she probably did have a little upset belly, but she was making it worse by being all anxious and nervous about the unknown and being out of her comfort zone. She was fine the next day, mostly. :)
The next day was a nutty day. School was cancelled because it was TOO COLD. See photo below. It was a fun day filled with games, karaoke, books, naps, and dancing. It was too cold to go outside, so we stayed in. there was ice/frost on the inside of the door jams and the windows. It was cold. The next day, Friday, school was cancelled again, so it was another fun day. We filled this day with science projects, more karaoke, more books, more dancing, playing with princesses, building with blocks, and some junior monopoly (which I was the champion lemon-aide sales person), and did I mention that I learned how to bake cinnamon rolls. mmmm. That evening, Brett, my brother in law, came home from a business trip...gone from Wed 'til Fri night, and we went to a pool party at a hotel there. The kids really enjoyed it.
Saturday we made fudge. mmmmm. It was also my day to go visit some stores that I don't get to go to very often because they are an hour or so away, but I love, Target, Wendy's, and a mall. But I have to admit, their mall wasn't much more exciting that ours. A few big stores and then lots of empty spaces of stores that used to be there, but are now closed. Bummer. :) Then that night we went and played games with some friends of theirs there, and had some ice cream. I met one of Dawn's friends whose blog I follow because I love her photography. That was fun. We talked cameras and actions and lens and flashes and diffusers. It was fun.
Sunday was my last day there. It was a whirlwind day too. We went to church, came home early, packed, made MORE fudge, made some fajitas, ate, loaded everyone in the cars and went to my nephew's piano recital. GREAT JOB, C!! and then headed home to load my stuff up and take off for the airport.
I was sad to go, and wish that we lived closer, not TOO CLOSE, lol, but much closer than we do. ;) My sweet S was thrilled to leave. hahaha! Not that she didn't enjoy herself, because she did. She loved playing with her cousins and they took great care of her and kept her happy. However, she was home sick the whole time, crying regularly wanting her Daddy or A or J, and she was just out of sorts and not herself. She didn't like having to share my attention during the day with her cousins and was very clinging. She turned back into her normal self assured, dancing, and singing girl, the moment we got home.
Our trip home was LONG. The kids were good, but it was still LONG. From the time we left Dawn's house till we got home was 11 hours. UGH! I am still catching up from being gone.
Like I had mentioned in last week's post, I left my camera at home. AH SNAP!! but I still got pictures everyday but the first Sunday. here they are...
